What is EMDR?

EMDR is a highly researched, evidence-based therapy designed to help people process and heal from distressing life experiences that can leave them stuck in a traumatic loop. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones that alternate between the right & left sides of the body and nervous system) to help the brain resume its natural processing ability, allowing the distressing memories to be integrated rather than remain frozen in time.

For Individuals experiencing:

Trauma & PTSD

Anxiety & panic

Grief & loss

Depression

Childhood or developmental trauma

Phobias

Low self-esteem rooted in past experiences

Overwhelming stress or emotional reactivity

What to expect during a session:

EMDR sessions at Resilient Parts begin with preparation. Before anything else, we take great care to ensure you’re feeling safe, grounded, and ready for the sometimes-intense experience of unraveling this trauma. We take a thorough history and work collaboratively to identify the specific memories or experiences behind your current distress. Once the processing phase has begun, you’ll be guided through bilateral stimulation while holding a target memory in mind. You don’t need to talk through every detail of what happened – EMDR works within the nervous system, rather than focusing entirely on the narrative. Sessions end with a grounding practice to make sure you feel settled and safe before you leave.
